“THE LORD TURNED AND LOOKED” – Part I

Luke 22:61

"And the Lord turned and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shall deny me thrice"

Jesus was facing the initial persecution before He was passed to the judges for judgment according to the scriptures. All His associates, friends and disciples have forsaken Him at that point, including Peter. They lost touch with the divine connection and power of Jesus because they wanted to take care of their safety and reputation from the allegation against Jesus.

Peter was still in reach of the sight of Jesus, but all other had fled. Peter was very far away, but Jesus caught his glimpse after three consecutive denial of the Master. When we deny Jesus, we become far away and lose contact. Consequently, we join ourselves with the scornful, sinful and the ungodly. Peter experienced all of these.

However, Jesus took notice of what was happening to Peter. He turned away from the chief priest and got the attention of Peter. When we lost touch with Jesus, He is still in touch. The look was extra ordinary and it was the look that no one else could understand apart from Jesus and Peter. Even when we decide not to look up to Jesus, He may be looking at us. Therefore, the Bible says, in Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Where and what are we looking at? In any situation, we need to be connected with Jesus the “Author and Finisher” Jesus wants us to be saved. Do not lose the touch.
