“TO DRINK OF THE CUP” – FINAL PART

Matthew 20:22

"But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask, Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, we are able".

Like we read yesterday, there is a price to pay to be like Jesus and to really be able to do all the things that Jesus did. Truly, we must be able to drink the cup he drank and accept to go to the ‘cross’ for the sins of others. The cross may not necessarily be the physical type of the cross where Jesus died. It may be a spiritual cross to deny ourselves and reduce ourselves so that Jesus may reflect in our lives.

The disciples answered Jesus that they were able to stand the test of the ‘cup’. They actually wanted the cup. They wanted to be baptized like Jesus. They were all speaking in flesh and by the flesh. Jesus knew His disciples very well. he took only three of them to the place of spiritual battle always. All of them fell short of the expectation of Jesus because of the flesh.

Remember this conversation between Jesus and indeed all the disciples happened in Matthew Chapter 20. The real manifestation occurred in Chapter 26:36-46.  The lesson today;  is that no man shall prevail by the arm of flesh. The arm of flesh let down the disciples. Jesus warned them ahead of the task of the garden of Gethsemane. They were willing in the spirit, but flesh kicked in and prevailed over them. The price of our ability to be like Jesus rest fully in JESUS. Surrender all in spirit and in flesh. Accept the gift of Jesus and then we shall be able to drink and baptize like Jesus. Amen.
