“THE MULTITUDE OF THY TENDER MERCIES”

Psalms 51:1

"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness: according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions."

This devotional does not encourage us to indulge in sins, but instead aims to reveal how marvelous God is when we step out of both spiritual and natural boundaries set by HIM. The tender mercies of God are abundant and available to those that genuinely confess like King David.

The Bible passage above is a cry of confession and call for clemency to receive God’s compassionate forgiveness. Because Kind David knew the negative implications sin would have on his relationship with God, he did not take his sins lightly. Instead he took them seriously evidenced by Kind David calling them transgressions. He acknowledged how big his sins were, but also knew that God is bigger than all of his sins. The multitude of God’s mercies are enough to blot the size and magnitude of our sins.

Please note that none of us can meet the standards of God; the Bible says in Romans 3:23 that “For all have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God”. The Glory of God is bigger than what can be humanly attained. God Himself has to bring us up to His Glory. Sin however destroys not only our relationship with God but also our ability to bring glory to His name. Sin is repugnant and we should hate sin the way God Hates sin. Do not wait until your sins find you out. Make a ‘U-turn’ from all sinful steps. Let divine consciousness take over in prayers and the mercies of God shall prevail.
