“I LOVE THEE” Final Part : Friday February 5

John 21:15

"So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simeon Peter, Simeon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him Feed my lambs"

Jesus recognized that dinner was necessary to get Peter to a serious question and answer session. Sounds like many of us. Love is the pre requisite and motivation to feeding the lambs. If you have no verifiable love for the lambs, you cannot feed them. Jesus was concerned in having Peter’s commitment to love and before call to service.

People can serve without love, because of what they will get out of the service. However, when you have love, you will continue to serve even when there is nothing to get out of the service. John 21:15-17 revealed Jesus repeating the same question to Peter three times. This was necessary because Peter had earlier denied Master Jesus when He (Jesus) was under interrogation.

The final admonition here today is that Peter that failed the test of love initially did not see himself as a failure. Jesus did not see him as a failure. You can only be a failure by your own conception. Jesus gave him another chance to feed His lambs. How do Christians approach the opportunity of another chance? With pride, anger or arrogance? Jesus is asking someone again “lovest thou me more than these?” The choice of the answer is yours. Jesus unilaterally loved Peter even when he (Peter) messed up and he (Peter) still became an important instrument of the gospel. PRAISE GOD!
