“FRIEND, GO UP HIGHER” – Part II

Luke 14:10

"But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shall thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee."

“Friend, go up higher”, may indicate an invitation or promotion to the top. Jesus was teaching about the process of how to go up higher and remain there. Reading the Bible in context, verses 6-14 of Luke Chapter 14, the teaching reveals an insight that getting up higher and remaining there is of the Lord and not man.

Progressing higher is a good thing and remaining there is even better and glorious. Many people struggle with other means without genuine hard work to get up higher. The top requires diligence in seeking the face of God and knowing God. On your way to the top, there may be different strokes of distractions, from persecution to lack of help, but when you are destined for the higher ground and top of the mountain, you will reach the top and God would see that you are unstoppable.

The key to reaching for the higher ground includes putting God first before anything else. As Christians, we should endeavor to live the life of the glory of higher ground. What does it mean to live such life? It means to rise above the instinctive urge to “get even” or the desire to “settle the score” and wanting to meet evil with evil. Furthermore, people that operate on higher ground always swallow their pride and put away the spirit of self-interest, and live a life of grace in the face of all unfair deals.

To be continued….
