“DELIVER US ONLY”

Judges 10:15

"And the children of Israel said unto the Lord; We have sinned: do unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day."

Please read the penultimate verses 13 and 14 to reveal the sin of the Israelites—in summary, they forsook God for other small “g” gods so the Almighty also abandoned them and allowed their enemies to oppress them. Later they realized that they needed deliverance, because their gods couldn’t help them out of their troubles.

However, the Israelites confessed their sins when they realized that they had no other haven to run to. Sadly, any time they were not in battle or during times of progress, they forgot about God and relaxed as if God no longer mattered in their achievements. They took God for granted because they knew that God could forgive sins once confessed. They realized that God could deliver them in times of troubles. They were very sure that even as sinners, God would be good and merciful.

At this time, the Israelites were desperate for deliverance from the hosts of the enemy. They had nowhere to turn to. The strange and wooden gods could not attend to them. Their arms of flesh failed, and finally they turned to God for deliverance. The question this morning is – are we desperate to confess our sins so as to be delivered today? Let us all put away whatever may represent strange gods in our lives for they cannot deliver themselves talk less of delivering anything or anyone. Strange gods might be our possessions, accomplishments, or trust in other humans that we put before the Mighty God. Some Christians honor Gods creation more than the creator. Without God, nothing would be created. Let us put God first. AMEN!!
