“BOND OF LOVE”: Monday February 17

1 Samuel 18b

1 Samuel 18b NLT
“...............there was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David”
1 Samuel 18b KJV
“.........that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his soul.”

Jonathan was a crown prince ready in line to take over from his father, king Saul, while David ; a shepherd boy was an anointed king in waiting. Both were waiting. However, because of fervent and bond of love of Jonathan for David. There was no competition and no hatred but love between them. Where love exists all things are possible. Jonathan created an atmosphere of fervent love to defer and indeed shift his own schedule for a friend that he was so much in love with.

Jonathan assured David saying in 1 Samuel 24:20 “And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand” The love Jonathan had for David made him to work for ( him) David at the risk of his (Saul) father’s direct wrath and fury. Jonathan did everything to protect David to fulfill the purpose of his life and plans of God.

Brethren, Jonathan the Son of Saul was a divine gift of love to David. A generational covenant was made between the two of them, because of the fervent love. The Bible also revealed that David behaved himself rightly, even in the midst of Jonathan’s father threat to both of them (David and Jonathan). Let us engage in soul knit love to one and other. The love between Jonathan and David was purely platonic, based on true friendship. Amen.
