“SHOULD I NOT DRINK IT

John 18:11

"Then Jesus said unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father Hath given me, shall I not drink it?"

It is clear that Jesus was rebuking Peter after he drew out his sword and smote the high Priest’ servant called Malchus, whose right ear was chopped off. In the situation of Jesus’s arrest, He did one of His last but wonderful miracles by putting back the ear. He still healed the wounded, even with the ‘cup’ that was full of pain from his life. What would you do in that situation?

The cup represents the path to His own cross of redemption which eventually led to His own resurrection. He rebuked Peter and asked him a crucial question? ” …the cup which my Father Hath given me, shall I not drink it? Peter was zealous to protect Jesus, but then, there was a reason for the cup and the betrayal. Jesus drank any cup given by the Father; knowing full well that whatever the Father presents to Him has a good and far reaching effect and ending.

Without the cup, there is no Redeemer and without the Redeemer no redemption and if there is no redemption there will be no resurrection.  Jesus took the cup with joy, drank it with hope and an open heart, fulfill His purpose with faith in the Father. The cup you hold today may not be delicious, it may be half full of joy and half full of pain.  Half full of sweet and half full of bitterness. Do you want to refuse to take it at all; talk less of drinking it? Remember, Jesus drank from His own cup and was given a Name that is still greater than any other names. Drink your own cup. Your Father in heaven is not unaware of what is in it. He can turn bitter experience to miracles. There is 11th hour miracles, only of you can take your cup with open heart like Jesus and drink it.
